The Teen Garden Space at the Orange County Rescue Mission's Village of Hope was designed to provide a dedicated outdoor environment where teens can find connection, recreation, and inspiration. This project transforms an overlooked edge of the campus into a vibrant garden retreat that balances beauty, functionality, and purpose.
The design incorporates a sequence of outdoor rooms defined by modern steel shade structures, lush planting, and flexible activity zones. Spaces for gathering, studying, and quiet reflection are woven together with areas for games, gardening, and creative expression. Features include, Shaded pavilions for small group conversation and casual seating, An outdoor classroom and movie wall for teaching, mentorship, and evening programs, Flexible play and recreation areas including lawn games, picnic spaces. and activity tables, Resilient, climate-appropriate plantings that provide seasonal color, shade, and a welcoming backdrop.
By combining comfort and functionality, the Teen Garden Space supports the Rescue Mission's broader goal of holistic restoration. Here, teens can build community, practice responsibility, and experience the restorative benefits of time outdoors in a safe and inspiring setting.
